Took a break from work on Sunday to catch a sunset and stayed a bit longer to catch the Moon / Venus / Jupiter conjunction.
Kawaii Kon 2012
The complete photo set can be found on Flickr.
My favorite anime convention was last weekend and although it looked like it might rain, we were quite lucky to not have to deal with anything more than a brief drizzle. The costumes were as bright and creative as ever. If you’ve never been to a Con (anime, sci-fi, fantasy, etc.) the experience is so much different than Halloween. The cosplayers have an attachment to their costumes that the average Halloween-goer does not. Halloween costumes are meant to be disposable whereas most cosplayers will keep their costume from year to year and build onto the costume gradually. Cosplayers identify with their characters and take pride in their handiwork. In a nutshell, one can find a Ghostbuster anywhere but only certain type of person will put in the effort to go beyond an inflatable Proton Pack.
2011 Year in Review
Well, another year is at an end. There have been some bright spots and some low spots. All in all, a pretty good year. Is it me or are they getting shorter?
Hawaii’s Total Lunar Eclipse
I got up at 2 a.m. and drove out to Mokuleia to catch the last total lunar eclipse visible from Hawaii until 2014/2015. While I was there, I figured I should try giving this time lapse thing another try.

DragonCon 2011 Photos
The highlight of my year is when I travel 4000+ miles to Atlanta each year for DragonCon. By my count, I’ve posted nearly 1,400 photos from this past year’s Con. The costumes and cosplay at this event is by far the best I’ve seen. And I hope that I’ve caught a small slice of the awesomeness in this photo gallery.

Waikiki Halloween 2011
Ah, Waikiki on Halloween is such a treat, if you’ll pardon the pun. The costumes are wild, if nothing else. Luckily there wasn’t any real rain, despite what the sky looked like earlier in the day.

Hallowbaloo 2011 photos
Once again the streets of Chinatown were overrun with costumes and beer for the annual Hallowbaloo street party. I took a lot of pics and if you have one of my cards, I’ll e-mail you the high res pics.

Moonlight Photowalk at Ala Moana Beach
A last minute photowalk was organized by Ricky Li last night. I brought out a few light toys, but none of those pictures turned out well. But I got one good photo to remember the night.
